I was watching a terrific new series on Netflix (which I’ll talk about in another ‘must watch’ post), and it’s the reason I ended up watching Al Pacino in ‘Dog Day Afternoon,’ a fascinating 1975 movie directed by Sydney Lumet. A very young Al plays Sonny, who robs a bank to pay for a sex-change operation for his other wife, Leon. What a story-line for the time! Never a Pacino fan in the past, ‘Godfather’ (meh), ‘Scarface,’ (yuk), totally fascinated by this surprising movie.
Next thing, I see on Facebook how Keanu Reeves insisted that Pacino star with him in the 1997 film ‘the Devil’s Advocate, so the second half of my mini Pacino movie-fest was chosen! Pacino is truly a master actor – the way he uses his face to mesmerise is both brilliant and deeply disturbing as he gradually reveals himself as the Devil incarnate! Wow! What a thrill it is to see a master at the top of his game!
