Australia – the bloody lucky country

It’s well overdue to revisit this text as it is way overused and misquoted.

The key word is of course ‘lucky’ and it’s not about anything that was given by this beautiful country and its first nations peoples; it’s about our ‘philistinism, provincialism and dependence’.

As reviewed by Hugh McKay:  With an introduction by Hugh Mackay
‘Australia is a lucky country, run mainly by second-rate people who share its luck.’
The phrase ‘the lucky country’ has become part of our lexicon; it’s forever being invoked in debates about the Australian way of life, but is all too often misused by those blind to Horne’s irony.  https://www.penguin.com.au/books/the-lucky-country-9781742531571
